Loving the 100 Days of Summer. Are you ready for the 4th of July?
“Summer Loving…Had Me a Blast…” cue the music. One of our ladies mentioned this song was a must on the summer playlist. Most certainly, boy is it! I’ve added it to my playlist. If you don’t know it is from the movie Grease, here’s the video. That is to say, ‘Loving our 100 Days of Summer’.
So, have you
- Explored your hometown?
- Sent any postcards?
- Checked off any of your Summer Bucket List items?
- Or, add a new song to your playlist?
I must tell you that I am enjoying these 100 summer days. In short, I’m conscious that there are only a select number of days in summer. Indeed, I want to make memories—fun memories, quiet memories—and take some photos.
Enjoying our 100 Days of Summer
I hope you are enjoying these days too. However, this is not to add pressure to get things done. This blog is a reminder that the 4th of July is in a week—time to get some sparklers or s’more fixings. Wear red, white and blue. Chill a watermelon, make popsicles, or have a neighborhood potluck. Hang your flags. Go to a parade and watch the fireworks. In other words, just do a little something somethin’, you choose.
Do you have a favorite memory from the 4th of July?

My Favorite Childhood 4th of July Memory
My favorite childhood 4th of July memory was spent in the neighborhood. Overall the neighborhood holiday was grilling along with a potluck. The laughter and yard dart games – yes, the dangerous ones. Then, as evening fell, the sparklers came out. Uncle Fred (an honorary name to all on the block) would sit in the middle of his front yard with a bucket of water and a hand-held blow torch. Yep, a blow torch. We could run up to the torch, light our sparklers, and swing them around with wide eyes and smiles. Then, put the old ones in the water bucket to start the process again. I can still see the smile that reached his eyes. A simple day full of celebration. Maybe this year, I will pull out my kitchen torch to light a few sparklers ~ wink.
