Trends from 6 Industry Magazines
*Disclaimer – This blog is not to say these trends for 2022 are ‘Must Do’ or ‘Take Action’ for our homes. This is for enjoyment to see what others are talking about in interior design. Also for us to explore if these trends resonate in us and solve a design problem we are working on.
Color: Everyone has a color of the year. This means we don’t have to choose “It”
- Better Homes & Gardens shares all the colors in their article, “Here’s Every 2022 Color of the Year So Far”. This article references many paint companies and what they deem to be the Color of the Year.
- It used to be that Pantone’s color of the year was the “It” color. But now everyone’s getting involved. I have to admit that ‘Very Peri’ may not be my “It” color but I love how Architectural Digest’s article describing the color makes me want to give it a try. Maybe for a purse, it would be beautiful in that color.
- The idea or note on colors is we often stick with our favorites. Yet often reading the ‘Color of the Year’ we open ourselves to a new color combination that may be just what we’ve been looking for to spice up a space.
- If you are having problems coordinating your colors I have a reference here you can download, Or you can go to the blog with step by step instructions.
Style: So many Interior Trends for 2022 here are just a few.
- Southern Living has gone on to fill us in with ‘10 Designers Share the Biggest Interiors Trends of 2022’. I like how they forecast moody darker colors – it is something I have always liked in a room. We have done that in our family room. And, of course, I agree with Kristin Kong that our spaces are going to bring more joy in the everyday this year.
- Another perspective on 2022 Trends is in Veranda magazine online. The photo below is Trend #3 Inviting and Inspiring WFH Spaces. New 2022 term to remember WFH (Work From Home) instead of the old Home Office term. I love how labels change but the room has the same use.
- I also enjoyed #6 Harnessing the Power of One’s Design Personality insight in 2022 Trends is in Veranda magazine. “After spending so much time scrolling through Instagram over the past two years, I think we are all tired of spaces that are void of personality or look like copies of spaces we’ve seen before,” says Lilse McKenna. “Highly personal spaces that reflect the lives and interests of the homeowners are the antidote to that kind of cookie-cutter design.” This is what we’ve been talking about for awhile now. So we’ve been ahead of the trend, isn’t that cool of us. Our February CCL Book Club book, Sage Living, also talks about this. If you haven’t signed up yet for our book club, please join us.
- For Kitchen trends HGTV has a wonderful array of ideas, big and small that you may find inspiring. Yes, I will admit I found many of these ideas swirling around my head for the kitchen renovation to come. Which ones speak out to you?
- You may have noticed I did leave Bathroom trends out of the running. This was because I didn’t see any “NewsWorthy Articles” yet. I will share when I see a great one.
- After looking at these trends we may find we have pieces in our homes that we can pull into new areas or new uses that we hadn’t thought about. Or that maybe we see a new tablescape for the coffee table to showcase our recent trip. Again, these trends are to be enjoyed not to impose “Must have design” into your homes.
Outdoors: One of my favorite 2022 Trends on Patio and Garden Designs
- Let’s take the trends outside, Garden Design offers these 2022 trends design ideas complete with steps to get you started. My favorite is #2 Blurring the Lines Between Indoors and Out. Indoor and outdoor rooms that flow into each other allowing us to enjoy the seasons, have always been one of my design styles.
- I have a few more garden trend pins on my 2022 Trends board on Pinterest.
- Again, I did leave Home Exterior trends out of the running because I didn’t see any “NewsWorthy Articles” yet. I will share when I see a great one.
In conclusion about 2022 Trends
As I said in the beginning, “This blog is not to say these trends for 2022 are ‘Must Do’ or ‘Take Action’ for our homes. This is for enjoyment to see what others are talking about in interior design. Also for us to explore if these trends resonate in us*Disclaimer – This blog is not to say these trends for 2022 are ‘Must Do’ or ‘Take Action’ for our homes.
This is for enjoyment to see what others are talking about in interior design. Also for us to explore if these trends resonate in us and solve a design problem we are working on..” Please remember these are predictions are what others are saying we’ll be seeing these details this year. It is part opinion part what the industry is putting into stores. Honestly you will see some but some will just slide through. I wanted to show you these ideas as stepping off points for discussion and exploring. One of these may be the idea you’ve been waiting for to solve a design problem, another one may just cause you to laugh out loud. Either way please let me know what you think.
