28 Ways for Loving the Ordinary Each & Every Day
Every month I create a list with ways for Loving the Ordinary each and every day. That is to say it is a list to help enjoy life by Carefully Curating the days with home, garden and life. Taking time to enjoy the moment alone or with someone special. I’ve expanded on some of these ideas to further inspire you. Here are February’s 28 Ways for Loving the Ordinary.
In other words, winter is a time to pause and live in the moment. February’s Loving the Ordinary List is full of ideas to enjoy this season.

I hope February finds you enjoying a moment cutting out hearts, enjoying your home, your garden and your community. “Community” I use that word as reference to all those people in our lives. That is to say a word for our family, those we consider family, our friends, our neighbors and those we nod and say ‘hello’ to as we take our morning walks. - Splurge on new bedding that you will love sleeping in; try a silk pillowcase for the beauty benefits; in addition learn to fold the fitted sheet
- Make an appointment with your doctor for a check-up – this is American Heart Month. Then purchase an item to step up and encourage you in your favorite physical activity.
- Learn some statistics on the competing teams for the Super Bowl then pick a team and cheer the game
- Make a large pot of homemade soup (February 4th is National Homemade Soup Day) and share with the neighbors
- Create a sign or poster to cheer yourself toward your dreams
- Start a collection of rom-com, modern or classical romance movies, books and/or music
- Purchase new plant or terrarium for your nightstand and learn how to nurture it
- Make valentines, like you did in grade school, for the special people you hold dear and have touched your heart this past year. Afterwards mail them out. This site has a wonderful and easy template for heart envelopes.
- Plan a week’s worth of Valentines-inspired outfits, if not that, get a Valentines-inspired manicure.
- Get a set of heart-shaped cookie cutters then pack your lunch cutting your sandwich, veggies, melon, brownies all into hearts
- Doodle of the month – Hearts and arrows
- Make yourself breakfast and a beautiful tray then take it back to bed
- Start #SelfcareSundays – for example learn to give yourself a facial massage (find You-tube video for a how-to),
- Get yourself a white noise machine or download an app; either one to help improve your rest and sleep
- Learn to make truffles then share them with your co-workers
- Wear red lipstick – go and find your shade of “red”. Think Marilyn Monroe, Rihanna, Audrey Hepburn
- Random acts of kindness day is February 17th – Here is a list of ideas
- Practice self-love; first, make a list of your talents. Secondly, compliment yourself. To clarify, don’t criticize yourself
- Start a pretty address book, new journal layout or spreadsheet with all your addresses including birthdays, anniversaries, and other notes.
- Go outside and snowshoe/cross country ski for movement for your heart and to enjoy a winter afternoon
- Go through your lingerie drawer and replace worn items. Purchase something new for yourself, maybe a new nightgown and robe
- Learn to administer CPR on adults and children
- Romance a daily ritual – light candles when getting ready for work, china cup for coffee, single rose on the dining room table, or anything you have been saving for a special occasion
- Download a free meditation or breathing app to help take care of your heart and relieve stress
- Rearrange your bedroom create a place for restoration, peace and romance
- Search out and find hearts in nature
- Take dance lessons; waltz, tango, belly. Or try a dance exercise class/video
- Explore a new area of town find a new lingerie shop, candle store or bakery
