Take a moment to pause and enjoy this summer
Part of living a Carefully Curated Life, a CCL life, is enjoying the months and seasons. Take a moment to pause and enjoy the moment, whether you have a few minutes, an afternoon, or a whole day. Summer is full of special days, times together, and sun-filled activities. Make time to enjoy this summer.
That is why I came up with my loving lists—ordinary things to do to help enjoy this one moment. Some need planning. Some need just a tiny bit of time. Others require a day to enjoy the activity. That is why I created the Loving the Ordinary monthly eBooks. The eBooks have ways to be enjoyed each month, such as loving the ordinary in extra-ordinary ways. You can glimpse this eBook by grabbing a PDF with 31 ways to enjoy a Carefully Curated Life.
5 Activities to Enjoy
That said, I wanted to share some summer activity ideas. I’ve broken them down to five fun activities to enjoy this summer.
- Bubble wands and a big jar of bubbles by the door – no age limit required, wink. Bubbles are easy to make with 1 cup of Dawn dish soap plus 4 cups of water. (I don’t add sugar or corn syrup like other recipes since I keep this on the porch all summer.) I enjoy a magical wave of bubbles daily! Bubble wands are available on Etsy, or you can create your own with wire and a dowel. These are leftovers from our daughter’s wedding, which we purchased on Etsy.
- Roll clay beads as humidifiers for rosemary and humidity-loving plants. I didn’t need an oven or kiln since this clay is air-drying. By doing this, the beads hold moisture from watering the plant and slowly release it into the air around it.
- Start a Summer Adventure Journal to track your summer and all your ideas. Specifically, I’ve shared a picture of an idea for repurposing some old wireframes for annual impatiens plants. You can see more in this ‘Capture that Idea’ blog.
- Make moth-repellent potpourri to preserve your winter clothes. Check out the DIY instructions in the DIY Herbal Moth-repellant Potpourri blog. I also go over the details and give a ‘recipe.’
- Lastly, purchase blank postcards, create them as if you’re at summer camp, and mail them out to friends. There are many ideas for making your own: draw/paint on them, glue photos of you enjoying your hometown with “Wish you were here” written on them, or create SunArt (cyanotypes) like the picture below. For example, here is one postcard idea using cyanotypes.
Most importantly, Enjoy the Summer
So grab one of my ideas here or in my weekly newsletter. You could create a list of fun things you enjoyed from childhood—make a kite or hopscotch on your sidewalk, and you know what you want. But let’s get out there and enjoy this summer.
