Infusing fragrance into your bedroom can help you sleep, install calm, and create an experience. I want to introduce you to using herbs, their fragrance, and folklore to start an herbal bedroom.
There are specific herbs and essential oils that aroma aid in relaxation, bringing a feeling of calm and help in sleep. Plus, they convey a sweet scent to any bedroom, thus creating an experience. Think of sleeping in Provence as the wind blows through the lavender fields. Or imagine camping in the pines, breathing in the cedar trees.
A bit of research on fragrance and sleep
‘Research has also shown that smell can affect how long it takes to fall asleep, in addition to overall sleep quality and quantity. Distinct scents may promote better sleep, help people wake up in the morning, or even influence dreams and memory formation during sleep.’ This statement is from SleepFoundation.org. Along with, ‘There is no consensus about the best types of aromatherapy for sleep. What works best for individuals may depend on their sleeping problems and fragrance preferences.’ But please do not think this fixes sleeping problems; discuss those with your doctor.

Herbal Projects to Try for the Bedroom
There are more unique herbs with their old lore meanings on the dream pillow graphic. This graphic also has instructions on how to create dream pillows. These pillows have been around for generations. The key to these pillows is to add the herbs slowly until you get a fragrance combination you like. Or, if you’re beginning, try single herbs in various pouches to see which helps you relax and sleep. I prefer to blend dried anise hyssop, lavender, and peppermint.
If you don’t want to create pillows, use the same dried herbs for potpourri—place bowls on your nightstand to breathe in the scent.
Blend the essential oils of these herbs for a diffuser. Or use single oils as a way to begin to find your favorite scent. You can utilize these singular or combined essential oils with a “carrier” for roller ball applicators or vases with reeds.
A simple beginning idea to get familiar with the herbs is to make a bouquet of fresh herbs in vases. Which ones do you like? Experiment. Try hanging a eucalyptus bouquet in your shower before bed to start your peaceful evening routine. Of course, you could have a single-scent candle on your nightstand as another way to begin this herbal journey.
To Sum Up, Fragrance in an Herbal Bedroom
I’ve shared more than seven ideas to create an herbal bedroom for calm, rest, and sleep. In another blog, I wrote ways to make guests comfortable in a bedroom and use these ideas. Read our February eBook, part 3 of our Winter eBook series, for more bedroom design ideas. I touched on herbal scents, but the fragrance is a personal experience. One person may find pleasure in the smell, and it is helpful for sleep. Another person might discover it does the opposite. You will need to experiment a bit to find what you enjoy.
But as an introduction, it’s meant to aid you in discovering these herbs. Check them out. Do you like its fragrance? Do you want to grow it? Or use essential oils? I desire to note that not all essential oils are the same. You get what you pay for; some dilute their oils, meaning their fragrance dissipates quickly. Rose Mountain Herbs is a place I like to get dried herbs and supplies; this is not an affiliate link. Above all, I wish you enjoyment and a little relaxation ~ wink ~ as you explore fragrance in an herbal bedroom.
