Take this month to romance every day, include yourself and those around you.
The month of February has long been promoted as love, hearts and romance. Certainly, Valentine’s cards, flowers and balloons are floating everywhere. I Love All of This! Yes…Love on ourselves and those we care about. Take a moment and listen to our heart – pause for a moment – care for our heart both physically and spiritually. Please take some time this month to romance every day, include yourself and those around you. (Romance takes many forms, I like to think of random acts of kindness as one of those forms.) Following are my ideas on a variety of ways to love this month.
A month’s worth of ideas for love and romance.
- Splurge on new bedding that you will love sleeping in.
- Make homemade soup – February 4th is National Homemade Soup Day.
- Make an appointment with your doctor for a check-up – this is American Heart Month.
- Learn some statistics on the competing teams for the Super Bowl; make a special appetizer and cheer loudly.
- Watch a romantic comedy movie.
- Wear pink and red together (here is my board in Pinterest with Ideas).
- Purchase an orchid for your nightstand and learn how to grow it.
- Bake heart shaped Red Velvet cake or make a Texas Sheet Cake and cut it into heart shapes when you serve it (here is my board in Pinterest with Ideas).
- Make valentines for the special people you hold dear and have touched your heart this past year, write them a “Love Letter”, include one to yourself.
- Get a Valentine’s red or pink manicure (extra points for a pedicure – spoil yourself).
- Purchase a new heart healthy cookbook. Try a few recipes for each meal of the day. (Here are a few of mine).
- Celebrate Mardi Gras with a bright colored statement or beaded necklace or at least celebrate Fat Tuesday with a paczki doughnut.
- Get yourself a new pillow, mattress pad, sound machine; something to help improve your rest and sleep.
- Random Acts of Kindness Day is February 17th.
- Learn to give yourself a facial massage (find You-tube video for a how-to).
- Buy a box of chocolates to share with someone or send one to a friend.
- Wear red lipstick – go and find your shade of “red”.
- Practice self-love and compliment yourself; make a list of all your good qualities and compliments others have given you.
- Download a free meditation or breathing app to help take care of your heart and relieve stress.
- Frame a recent photo of yourself and someone you love.
- Go outside and snowshoe/cross country ski for movement for your heart and to enjoy a winter afternoon.
- Go through your lingerie drawer and replace worn items. Purchase something new for yourself.
- Learn to administer CPR on adults and children.
- Romance a daily ritual – light candles when getting ready for work, china cup for coffee, single rose on the dining room table, or use some item you have been saving for a special occasion.
- Rearrange your bedroom to make it a place for restoration and peace.
- Learn to say “I love you” in another language and sign language counts.
- Take dance lessons; waltz, tango, belly.
- Explore a new area of town, find a new favorite coffee shop, deli or thrift shop.
I hope this inspires you for romance as it has me.
